BOSNIA
Center for Peacebuilding
The Center for Peacebuilding is a non-political, non-governmental organization based in Bosnia and Herzegovina whose goals are peacebuilding and violence prevention. They actively promote an understanding of human rights issues, especially with regards to rights of women and children, teach non-violent communication and dialogue as tools for conflict transformation, and support a better understanding of cross-cultural, inter-religious, and interethnic differences.

CAMBODIA
Youth for Peace
Youth for Peace (YFP) conducts interactive workshops and program activities for youth in conflict resolution, peacebuilding and leadership education grounded in Cambodian culture. Their peace education program is designed to help youth effectively promote peace within themselves, their families, their communities and their nation. The leadership program helps youth become aware of the social problems around them and identify possible solutions.

CAMBODIA
Youth Resource Development Program
YRDP aims to support the development of Cambodian civil society by addressing the lack of critical thinking and analytical skills among university students. The organization provides non-formal education and capacity-building opportunities for students to develop their capacities for analyzing their own situation and their country's situation and to reflect on this analysis and act for change.

EL SALVADOR
Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad

CIS's mission is to promote solidarity and cultural exchange across borders between the Salvadoran people and others in the search for development and dignity. They work to promote and strengthen a culture of solidarity that implies accompaniment, respect for equality of different cultures, and mutual support between people. CIS focuses on using different strategies to promote a solidarity that creates the space for grassroots organizing for justice and dignity.

GUATEMALA
Organizacion Chico Mendez
Based in the Mayan village of Pachaj located in the municipality of Cantel, outside the highland city of Quetzaltenango (Xela), Organización Chico Mendez is a Guatemalan organization dedicated to educating and involving young people in local community projects, with a particular focus on preserving the natural resources upon which the community depends for survival. Mayan youth from Organización Chico Mendez work to reforest and maintain the local protected forest land. The organization is also dedicated to defending public access to sources of clean water, educating youth and community members about human rights issues, and creating sustainable economic development projects within the local community.

 

JORDAN
Community Development Center in Sweileh
The Community Development Center in Sweileh was established in 2000 as the first storefront advocacy center in Jordan.  Affiliated with Jordan University, the CDC is a non-governmental organization with no religious or charitable affiliations.  Located in one of the most impoverished, overpopulated, and diverse neighborhoods of Amman, the Center is dedicated to supporting marginalized communities reclaim their rights.  Founded as it is on the principles of empowerment, community organizing and rights-based advocacy, the Center works with those in need towards a more just and equitable society. [Note: GYC is currently developing an initiative in Jordan, and plans work with the CDC in the near future.]

 

JORDAN
Jordan Red Crescent
Jordan Red Crescent (JRC) is one of the partner organizations of the Community Development Center in Sweileh and is the implementing organization responsible for managing a new community development center in the area of East Amman.  In line with the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement and in response to the various socio-economic needs of the Jordanian population, JRC has several programs that aim to assist the vulnerable and marginalized groups in Jordan.  Some of the services and programs carried out by JRC are low-priced medical services through its hospital, orphan assistance programs, social programs and vocational training. [Note: GYC is currently developing an initiative in Jordan, and plans work with the JRC in the near future.]

NEPAL
Backward Society Education

BASE is a membership-based people's organization which promotes participation of its members in all activities by nurturing human potential to the optimal extent to ensure full and abundant life for every one in the community. Their mission is to empower the kamaiyas, as well as other excluded and deprived communities in Nepal, collectively by economic and socio-economic development, protect human rights and indigenous culture through information, education and communication and to raise a collective voice against prevailing exploitation and injustice at the community level.

 

RWANDA
AJPRODHO

AJPRODHO, the Youth Association for the Promotion of Human Rights and Development, originated among a group of students from the National University of Rwanda and currently operates at the national level, with a network of over 500 young people. AJPRODHO supports the rights of young people in Rwanda through Child Protection projects, Gender Based Violence prevention campaigns, legal aid, as well as research and policy papers (most recently on the rights of incarcerated youth).

VENEZUELA

Catedra de la Paz y Derechos Humanos
The mission of Catedra de la Paz, based in Mérida, Venezuela, is to enable people's potential to participate in community and sustainable development through the idea of education for peace and human rights in popular communities.  To achieve this mission, they organize educational activities for peace and human rights, promote an inclusive process of community participation and involvement in local, sustainable development, and support community action initiatives which look for alternative and community-based solutions to social problems.

 

VENEZUELA

Tiuna el Fuerte

Tiuna el Fuerte is concerned with indigenous development, particularly in culture and the arts. The organization hopes to become an alternative model of art within 5 years. They draw from values of peace, freedom, tolerance, and respect of individuals' talent and own capacities. Tiuna el Fuerte looks to create spaces of collective learning that fortify a sense of community and development that is sustainable and respectful of beauty, health and the environment.
